What happened

DoNotPay sold a subscription service it marketed as 'the world's first robot lawyer'. The FTC said the company never tested whether its chatbot performed as well as a human lawyer and did not hire lawyers to check its output. The case was part of the FTC's 'Operation AI Comply' sweep in September 2024, and the final order requires DoNotPay to pay $193,000 and tell past subscribers about the settlement.
