What happened

Clearview built a facial recognition database of more than 30 billion photos copied from the internet, including images of Dutch people, and turned each face into a biometric code without consent. The Dutch regulator said the database should never have been built, that Clearview was not open about it and that it ignored people's requests to see their data. It also warned Dutch organisations that using Clearview could lead to fines.
