What happened

California's privacy regulator found Honda made people verify their identity and hand over more personal information than needed just to opt out of data sales or limit data use. Its cookie tool made opting out harder than opting in, and Honda could not show proper contracts with its ad-tech partners. In its first CCPA enforcement decision, the agency fined Honda and ordered it to fix the process.
